Downtown Milwaukee is filled with popular, pedestrian-friendly commercial strips of nightlife, restaurants and shops.
Westown
Westown is quintessential downtown Milwaukee. Located closest to the Hyatt, this neighborhood houses Old World 3rd Street, the Wisconsin Center, the Shops of Grand Avenue, theaters, restaurants, nightclubs and more. Westown is bound by I-43 on the west, Juneau to the north, I-794 to the south and the Milwaukee River to the east.
East Town
About two blocks east of the Hyatt and encompassing the area east of the Milwaukee River, you’ll find East Town. This neighborhood holds the renowned Water Street, a road that follows the path of the river and is the central avenue of the city’s nightlife and entertainment.
A small section of Water St. between Highland and Knapp Streets features the largest concentration of bars and watering holes in Milwaukee and is city’s own version of Bourbon St. It’s where the masses come to party and where the young and young-at-heart feel right at home.
Historic Third Ward
Known as “Milwaukee’s Arts and Fashion District,” the Historic Third Ward warehouses are now home to many fashionable boutiques and upper-class establishments. The Historic Third Ward sits just to the south of East Town and I-794, on a peninsula bound by the river to the west and Lake Michigan to the east.
Brady Street
A quick cab ride from the Expo, the Brady St. neighborhood’s independent flair can be seen in the diverse mix of ethnic cuisine, cool coffee shops, vintage stores and vibrant nightlife. To get to Brady St., follow Water St. about twelve blocks north of Kilbourn St. |
