The South Milwaukee Rockets B team won first place overall in the 2003 ProStart® Invitational, a statewide high school culinary competition held this March in Milwaukee. The team, consisting of Michael Vielleux, Carlos Mercado, Noor Ckadan and Sara Fare has now earned a trip to compete in the national finals, to be held in Denver, Colorado April 27-30, 2003. Their instructors are Trude Mihalovich and Jill Goeltz. Fourteen teams from 12 schools competed in this year's competition, which consisted of two events: a Culinary Competition and Knowledge Bowl. Industry professionals and college educators judged contestants on teamwork, presentation, cooking procedures, sanitation and more. First place in the Culinary Competition went to the Preble Hornets A team from Green Bay. Second place went to the Culinary Leaders of Watertown from Watertown, WI, while third place went to the South Milwaukee Rockets B team. First place in the Knowledge Bowl went to the Golden Raiders from Sheboygan North.
