Food, Inc., a movie co-produced by Eric Schlosser (author of Fast Food Nation and Chew on This), could spur some media coverage and possible negative consumer attitudes towards the food production and restaurant industries as it hits Wisconsin theaters this July.
Promoters bill the movie as “exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that's been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government's regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA.” The movie’s message: “the food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment.”
Food, Inc. puts focus on hot issues in America’s food system and their effect on the environment, consumer health and the economy, covering topics like foodborne illnesses, factory farming, pesticides, healthy eating and nutrition labeling.
